While nothing concrete has been decided, both the NFL owners and players offered a glimmer of hope that a deal on a new collective bargaining agreement between the two sides can reach reached within the next few weeks. Both sides finally appear to have the necessary sense of urgency to get this whole mess resolved.

If they can iron out a deal by mid-July, there should be little or no disruption to the current schedule in terms of the start of summer training camps and preseason games.

For the first time since late March, when the owners decided to impose a lock-out on its players, actual numbers have surfaced concerning the split of the $9 billion of revenue that the league generates each year. It looks like the players will get a 48 percent piece of the whole pie as opposed to the old deal which gave them 50 percent of the revenue after the owners took the first billion right off the top.

The one change in the proposed new CBA that could have the biggest impact right off the bat are the rules governing free agency. From 2006 to 2009 a player with at least four years in the league was eligible to be an unrestricted free agent. This ballooned to six years in 2010, but is expected to go back to the original four-year time frame under the terms of the new CBA. This would add a number of quality players to the free agent ranks that are already waiting for an agreement in order to find a new home. Some of the more notable names that would be eligible are WR Steve Smith, RB Ahmad Bradshaw, and TE Kevin Boss of the Giants, OT Jermon Bushrod of the Saints, DT Brandon Mebane of the Seahawks, and LB Clint Session of the Colts.

The 100-day long lock-out that is likely to go on for at least a few more weeks will have cost this year's crop of rookies close to four months of vital preparation for their new career in the NFL.

Yao Ming played 6 full seasons and is still currently in his 7th season in the NBA (2002-Present). He has played for the Houston Rockets his whole career in the NBA. He averaged 32.6 minutes per game, while ripping down 9.2 rebounds and scoring 19 points per game till this day. Unlike the 2 tallest centers in the NBA, Yao Ming has been a workhorse and knows how to tally a stat sheet and is the only player in the top 10 tallest NBA players that is still playing.

4.) Shawn Bradley
Height: 7'6'' Weight: 275 Pounds
Shawn Bradley played 12 seasons (1993-2005). He has played for three different teams:Philadelphia 76ers, New Jersey Nets, and Dallas Mavericks, where he spent the majority of his career. He averaged 23.5 minutes, 6.3 rebounds and 8.1 points per game during his career. Although he did average 2.5 blocks per game over his career, he has been known for a "Giant" who got dunked on many time.

5.) Chuck Nevitt
Height: 7'5'' Weight:250 Pounds
Chuck Nevitt played 9 seasons in the NBA (1982-1994). He did not play in 3 seasons over the 12 years of his career. He played for five teams throughout his career: Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Detroit Pistons, Chicago Bulls, and San Antonio Spurs. He did not play more then 45 games in any season and just averaged 5.3 minutes, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.6 points per game throughout his career. Throughout his career he basically got play time during garbage minutes meaning his team usually had a big lead or was down to much to make a comeback, especially in Detroit. While in Detroit, the fans called Detroit's blow-outs, when Nevitt was able to get his minutes, "Nevitt Time". His nine seasons of minutes played totaled up to be about the length of 18 full NBA games.

6.) Slavko Vranes
Height: 7'5'' Weight: 275 Pounds
Slavko Vranes only played three minutes in one game with the Portland Trailblazers during his entire NBA career (2003-2004). He was drafted by the New York Knicks in 2003, but was released during the season, not playing one minute of any Knicks game. The Portland Trailblazers signed him a month after his release from the New York Knicks to a 10-day contract, where he played his only three minutes in the NBA.

7.) Mark Eaton
Height: 7'4'' Weight: 290 Pounds
Mark Eaton played 11 seasons in the NBA (1982-1993) and spent his whole career with the Utah Jazz. He averaged 28.8 minutes, 7.9 rebounds, and 6.0 points per game throughout his career. Mark Eaton was known for being a monster on defense averaging 3.5 blocks per game over his career and during his third season in the NBA he averaged a whopping 5.6 blocks per game.

8.) Rik Smits
Height: 7'4'' Weight: 265 Pounds
Rik Smits played 12 seasons in the NBA (1988-2000). Just like Mark Eaton, Rik Smits played his NBA career with one team, the Indiana Pacers. He averaged 26.6 minutes played, 6.1 rebounds, and 14.8 points scored per game during his career. Similar to Ralph Sampson and Mark Eaton, Rik Smits has had very a productive career.

9.) Ralph Sampson
Height: 7'4'' Weight: 235 Pounds
Ralph Simpson played 9 seasons in the NBA (1983-1992). He played for four different teams: Houston Rockets, (where he spent the first half of his career), Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, and Washington Bullets. He averaged 29.8 minutes played, 8.8 rebounds, and 15.4 points per game throughout his NBA career. He was teammates with another 7-foot player ,Hakeem Olajuwon, they were nicknamed the "Twin Towers".Throughout the middle of his career he battled knee injuries because of his big frame and when he was traded for the Rockets he was never able to stay healthy for a full season of games battling with knee and back injuries.

10.) Priest Lauderdale
Height: 7'4'' Weight: 325 Pounds
Priest Lauderdale only played 2 seasons in the NBA (1996-1998). He played one season with the Atlanta Hawks and one season with the Denver Nuggets. During his two-year career in the NBA, he averaged 7.1 minutes, 1.9 rebounds, and 3.4 points. After he left the NBA, he went to play basketball in Bulgaria.

For most baseball bettors, the urge to bet the favorite is often too tempting to pass up. After all, the favorite is "supposed" to win, while the underdog is "supposed" to lose. The key for sports gamblers is to determine if the price on the favorite is a true estimation of the team's likelihood of winning the game. A favorite of -150 with a true probability of winning two out of three games is a good bet in the long run, while a favorite of -240 with a true probability of winning two out of three games, is not. For the most part, baseball bettors are far more likely to see the second scenario, as opposed to the first, as the oddsmakers know that the majority of baseball bettors are going to back the favorite, and they will adjust for that fact.

A seven year study of baseball results produced the following winning percentages and betting results:

Underdogs: 6917-9644 -153 units
Favorites: 9619-6891 -641 units

Even though the favorites won at a healthy 58.3-percentage clip, bettors who backed only the favorites would lose four times as much as a bettor who backed only underdogs.But since both scenarios will show a flat-rate loss, what we're looking for are certain situations that occur, where we can take advantage of the oddsmakers' tendency to inflate the line on the favorite, and look for value with the underdogs.

Colts Punter Arrested For Public Intox After Swim

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Indianapolis Colts punter Pat McAfee was arrested for public intoxication Wednesday after he reportedly took a pre-dawn swim in a canal in a nightlife district.

Police arrested McAfee about 5 a.m. in the Broad Ripple neighborhood and took him to an arrest processing center.

Officers say the 23-year-old, second-year player from West Virginia had a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 percent nearly twice the legal limit if driving in Indiana.

Colts President Bill Polian said in a statement that the team is aware that McAfee was arrested.

"We are in the process of gathering the relevant facts," Polian said. "When that task is complete, we will deal immediately with the issue of club discipline. Until we complete that process, we will have no further comment."

Officers asked McAfee if he had been swimming in the canal and he said "I am not sure," according to a police report. They asked him how he got wet and he said it had been raining, then told officers that his shirt was "in the water."

Police asked McAfee how much he had to drink.

"A lot cause I am drunk," McAfee said, according to the report.

McAfee told police that he was waiting for a friend to get him and added he planned to take a taxi home, the report said. He asked if he could walk home, but officers arrested him. They say he smelled of alcohol, his eyes were watery and bloodshot and his speech slurred. Officers said they had to help McAfee stand up after giving him a breath alcohol test.

Police were first called after a driver stopped at a red light reported that a man with no shirt approached her car. The woman told police she feared the man was going to try to get in the car, so she ran the red light and called 911 to report the suspicious person.

McAfee is the third Colts' player to be on alcohol-related charges this year.

Receiver Taj Smith was stopped by police on suspicion of drunken driving in January. Smith spent last season on the Colts' practice squad but was cut Sept. 4.

In August, backup defensive lineman John Gill was arrested for public intoxication after Indianapolis police found Gill passed out in a ditch. The charge was later dropped, but team president Bill Polian said then that Gill would be placed in a roster category that would keep him inactive all season.

Coach Jim Caldwell is expected to speak to the media later Wednesday.

Favre ready to end starts streak?

Things haven't been as easy this season for quarterback Brett Favre (notes) as he probably imagined they'd be. He's got his Minnesota Vikings in third place in the NFC North with a 1-3 record and he's got a nagging inflammation on his throwing elbow (not to mention an NFL investigation into his off-field activities).

That nagging elbow kept Favre out of practice yesterday, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, as the team prepares to take on the disappointing Dallas Cowboys this Sunday.

Favre told reporters before practice that he might have to end his NFL-record consecutive-starts streak of 289 games if he was a hindrance to the team rather than an asset.

The elbow simply needs rest but Favre also has to get used to a whole new set of receivers.

Tarvaris Jackson (notes) may finally get his chance.

Packers TE Finley out 8-12 weeks

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers (notes) loves throwing the ball to 23-year-old tight end Jermichael Finley (notes), but he's going to have to find somewhere else to throw for the next eight to 12 weeks.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Finley will be out for that long, recovering from knee surgery. The original prognosis had him only out for three to six weeks. Despite the length of recovery, the team still hasn't decided whether it will put him on injured reserve or not, the paper reports, and bank on him recovering quicker than that.

"I don't think we need to decide this week," coach Mike McCarthy said, according to the paper. "We're gathering information. Once we get to next week, I think we'll probably get a little more urgency on what we are going to do with the 53-man roster."

Vick: "Don't count me out"

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick (notes) is recovering quickly from his major rib injury that kept him out of last weekend's victory over the San Francisco 49ers. So much so that even though he didn't practice yesterday, Vick isn't thinking he'll be out of commission come Sunday when the Birds take on the Atlanta Falcons.

"Don't count me out," Vick said, according to the Camden Courier-Post. "That's all I could really tell you right now."

Coach Andy Reid says Vick is day-to-day. Meanwhile, Kevin Kolb (notes) is taking the first-team offense snaps in practice and preparing "as if he's getting the nod again this weekend," the paper reports.

Moss-Patriots breakup long time coming

Now that wide receiver Randy Moss (notes) has moved on to the Minnesota Vikings, it is becoming clearer that team executives of his former team, the New England Patriots, were not enjoying his company for a pretty long time before finally trading him.

By February of this year, coach Bill Belichick had told Moss that he "wasn't part of their future plans," according to the Boston Globe.

Then Moss showed up to camp in great shape, a source told the Globe, and Belichick approached the 33-year-old receiver "about starting talks on a new deal." The source said Moss believed he would get traded even before the season got started and told Belichick that they could negotiate such things after the season.

It didn't help Moss win any fans in the team's front office, either, when he refused to sit with fans who had paid thousands of dollars to do so at a major team fundraiser.

Still, the Globe points out that his former teammates mostly have good things to say about Moss: "Among those he suited up with every week, he was almost universally beloved. With those outside the locker room, it was a different story."

CINCINNATI -- The Reds reached their first postseason since 1995 and, in retrospect, were dead on arrival.

The Phillies, seeking their third consecutive National League pennant, rode pitcher Cole Hamels to a 2-0 victory Sunday that completed a sweep of the National League Division Series.

Once the Phillies scored in the first inning of Game 1 -- Wednesday night in Philadelphia -- the Reds were not long for the series.

Roy Halladay went on to throw the second no-hitter of postseason history.

In Game 2, the Reds fell apart and lost 7-4 after taking a four-run lead.

The series moved to Flyover Land for Game 3. A sellout crowd showed up for Cincinnati's first home playoff game since the 1995 National League Championship Series against the Braves. But Hamels, a cool California kid who led the Phillies to the World Series title in 2008, dealt the Reds their fourth shutout in the last five games against the Phillies.

Hamels allowed only five hits and struck out nine. After Brandon Phillips hit a leadoff single in the ninth inning, Hamels induced a double play from Joey Votto and struck out Scott Rolen to send Philadelphia to its third consecutive NLCS.

• Turning Point: When Hamels threw his pregame warmup pitches and his left arm didn't complain, the Reds should've gone speed-boating on the nearby Ohio River to take advantage of the warm weather. Hamels, a Californian who blends power with precision, doesn't lose elimination games in October (now 4-0). Nor does he lose to the Reds (now 7-0).

• Stud: Hamels. The left-hander lacked his best changeup and accuracy, but he had enough heat on his fastball to make it all work. He averaged 92-94 mph and reached 96 mph. He had no walks.

• Dud: Orlando Cabrera's mouth. Cabrera, the Reds' shortstop who had a .303 on-base percentage this year, whined about the plate umpire after the Reds were no-hit in Game 1 by Roy Halladay. Before Game 3 Sunday, Cabrera talked himself into the lineup despite his side injury that had led Reds manager Dusty Baker to inform Paul Janish that Cabrera wouldn't be starting. Looking like a guy with a sore side, Cabrera threw a screwball for a two-out error that gave the Phillies a 1-0 lead in the first. Baker should've gone with Janish.

The Scary Thing Is, Roger Clemens Believes Roger Clemens

Here is Roger Clemens, the greatest pitcher of his generation, fresh from getting fingerprinted and taking a mug shot on Monday at his arraignment at a federal courthouse in Washington D.C., and there isn't a doubt that he is a Hall of Famer ...

When it comes to lying.

Clearly and dramatically, the guy told a slew of whoppers two years ago when he swore before a bunch of U.S. congressmen on Capitol Hill that he never used performance-enhancing drugs. He did so with the grace of one of those old Soviet Union thugs. This was before, during and after he spent time hurling folks under Washington's Metro subway cars, and those folks ranged from his former trainer to his former best friend to his former best friend's wife to his former nanny.

Well, here's the scary thing: There isn't a doubt that Clemens believes what he keeps saying. He believes he never used steroids, and he believes anybody who states otherwise is the true liar.

So, inside that courtroom just a few blocks from where Clemens irritated congressmen with his defiance, it was more of the same when witnesses said he stood before the judge at the appointed time and proclaimed boldly, "Not guilty, your honor."

In other words, Clemens is clowning the feds.

Not good. Not that Clemens cares, because in his mind, he isn't guilty of three counts of making false statements, two counts of perjury and one count of obstruction of Congress. He also doesn't care that the conviction rate of the feds is nearly 100 percent.

To hear Clemens tell it through Twitter after his indictment earlier this month, he'll be just fine after he does what Al Capone, Michael Vick and others couldn't do -- beat the feds. Wrote Clemens on Twitter, "I look forward to challenging the Governments (sic) accusations, and hope people will keep an open mind until trial. I appreciate all the support I have been getting. I am happy to finally have my day in court."

That court date is slated for April, which means Clemens will have several months to convince himself even more that up is down, water isn't wet and he's never seen a syringe.

This isn't one of those Marion Jones things. She willingly played the role of the persecuted so well that she was challenging for an Oscar and an Emmy in multiple years. That's because she admitted that she knew she was lying when she angrily insisted before two grand juries that she didn't use steroids to make her swift legs even faster along the way to five gold medals during the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

In a strange way, Clemens is -- well, sincere. You can see it in his face, and you can hear it in his voice.

Clemens has convinced himself that he spent those 23 seasons winning 354 games and collecting 4,672 strikeouts by doing nothing more than eating all of his Wheaties. Clemens has convinced himself that Brian McNamee, his former trainer, is full of resin bags when McNamee says he actually saved syringes and other medical paraphernalia from many of the times he says he injected Clemens with steroids.

Not only that, Clemens has convinced himself that Andy Pettitte, his former best friend, "misheard" or "misremembered" when Pettitte informed congressional investigators that Clemens told him he was using HGH. And Clemens has convinced himself that, even though Pettitte's wife said she was informed of Clemens' use of performance-enhancing drugs by Pettitte, Clemens is convinced that Pettitte's wife was distracted by watching Oprah or something at the time.

Clemens also has convinced himself that his former nanny was hallucinating or maybe having eye problems when she sided with McNamee instead of Clemens by telling the feds that Clemens really was at an event hosted by steroid king Jose Canseco.

The guy could pass a lie detector test. So could Pete Rose during that stretch of years when he claimed he never bet on baseball. And you could include the likes of Richard Nixon, who went to his grave contending that he never knew about the Watergate break-in or coverup, even though all of the evidence and testimonies say otherwise.

Which brings us to a conversation I had last year with Dr. Patrick Devine, my favorite sports psychologist, who has spent the last three decades as an accomplished professor in the psychology department at Kennesaw State University in Georgia.

Said Devine, "Could some of these guys have gotten to the stage where they've blocked things out of their minds, and now they believe that they didn't do them? Well, Sigmund Freud would say, yes, you can repress those thoughts. The seasoned guys, such as a Roger Clemens and others, yeah, they've trained themselves to block out the negative and to emphasize the positive in all situations.

"You walk a guy, and then you have to look at the next batter as if this is going to be a strikeout. When you can push things out of your mind to this extent, it puts you more into the possibility of saying, 'Well, what I did was really OK.' In the case of performance-enhancing drug use, for instance, it starts to become like, 'Well, everybody else is doing it.'

"So, at the end of the day, it makes it easier to deny usage over time, especially if you get caught."

Exhibit A: The Rocket. Or shall I say The Designated Victim -- you know, in Clemens' mind?

ANAHEIM, Calif. – A pal of Manny Ramirez’s (notes) considered the coming week and what may follow, how far the Los Angeles Dodgers have fallen, and the club’s opportunity – now that Ramirez is on his feet again – to save the last few million of a lot of wasted dollars.

“Manny’s days in L.A.,” the friend said, “are over.”

One way or another.

As he once followed teammate Johnny Damon (notes) out of Boston, Ramirez will follow Damon to the waiver wire, two Idiots in limbo.

On Monday night, Damon hadn’t dismissed returning to the Red Sox for WWJDD II.

And Manny was Waived Man Walking, though Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti hadn’t yet pulled that trigger. It’s coming.

While life with Manny in L.A. was often complicated – the drug suspension, the injuries, the dramatic loss of power, the blind idolatry, the consecutive trips to the National League Championship Series, the wig sales – Colletti’s next decision will not be. Now he tries to turn the last few bricks of Mannywood into something useful.

At 38, Ramirez has nearly half as many trips to the disabled list (three) as he does home runs (eight). The trick will be to keep him on the field long enough to push him through the waivers process (48 hours) and, assuming he is claimed, through trade negotiations (as many as another 48 hours).

Ramirez has full no-trade rights, which adds another layer to a process that must conclude by midnight Aug. 31 if the receiving club has designs on employing him during the postseason.

Colletti, who did the right thing 17 months ago when he signed Ramirez, only to have the whole thing go terribly sideways, had several teams call about Ramirez at the trading deadline. The Tampa Bay Rays, Chicago White Sox and an undetermined NL club, at minimum, were interested enough to inquire.

Not only was Ramirez on the disabled list (calf strain) at the time, but the Dodgers considered themselves competitive in the NL West. That ship has disappeared over the horizon and sunk, as Russell Martin (notes), Matt Kemp (notes), Andre Ethier (notes) and James Loney (notes) all went under about the same time.

So, given more than $3.5 million remaining on Ramirez’s contract, given the Dodgers are done, given they wouldn’t consider offering him arbitration (so there are no draft picks at stake) or re-signing him and given they might pull a reasonable prospect out of a trade, there is no downside.

Ramirez makes sense for the Rays, though they are not optimistic about him reaching them in the waiver process (they’d have the 29th claim, ahead of only the New York Yankees.) If their claim – and they’ve not yet decided on that action – were rewarded, the Rays couldn’t be sure Ramirez’s body would hold up for two months. They don’t typically throw $3 million at hope, which doesn’t mean they wouldn’t, or couldn’t soften the financial blow with a prospect or two.

By appearances, the Rays did put in a claim on Damon, but lost him to the Red Sox, which found Rays manager Joe Maddon rooting for Damon’s no-trade clause.

“What a great city Detroit is,” Maddon said Monday, beaming. “There’s a lot of good things going on in Detroit. I’m sure he doesn’t want to miss it.”

The Yankees are known to throw $3 million at less than hope, and they’ve been forced to rotate their DH all season. Marcus Thames (notes) has batted there lately. Lance Berkman (notes) hit .179 for them before going to the disabled list. Alex Rodriguez (notes) might need some DH reps when his calf heals, but that doesn’t leave much of a bat at third.

A haven for players seeking renewal, the White Sox certainly have room for another. Who knows, Ramirez might even rediscover his power stroke at The Cell.

The Texas Rangers, temporarily without Nelson Cruz (notes), have had scouts on Ramirez, leading to speculation they have some interest. Adding Ramirez would lead to the obvious issue, however: To get both his and Vladimir Guerrero’s (notes) bat into the lineup, one of them would have to play left field.

In the National League, whose clubs would get the first shot at Ramirez, the Cincinnati Reds and Atlanta Braves make some sense. The Reds just lost August pickup Jim Edmonds (notes) for an undetermined time because of an oblique strain and the Braves are getting little offense from left field. Of course, that would mean risking Ramirez in the outfield, which wouldn’t help their pitching staff or his calf.

I am backing the Colts/Saints to Finish UNDER the posted total of 56.5 Points in Super Bowl 44. This is a classic Super Bowl match up of two powerhouse offenses that love to throw the ball. Everyone is bracing for a shootout and with as much "Amateur" Money that is pouring in on the OVER, I feel that we are getting Great Line Value on the UNDER play. As of Tuesday afternoon 77% of Total Action is being Bet on this game to play out Over the total. In all honesty, lines makers could have made this total 61 points and still got 77% of the action on the OVER, but that would make it to easy for Sharps like me to make a Kings Fortune on the UNDER in this game.

This is the Super Bowl ladies and gentleman, the Biggest Single Game in all of Sports. It's only human nature for players to feel a little nervous, even experienced veterans like Peyton Manning and Reggie Wayne, who have been there before, will be a little gun shy at first. I fully expect both teams to start this game like a boxing match, feeling out what their opponent is trying to do. I don't expect either team to come right out like this is a regular season game and just sling the ball up and down the field, although your friend who is a big football fan will tell you that's how this game will start. We call friend like that Suckers & Squares! In fact, after 2 weeks of preparation and massive media hype, combined with the human bodies nervous system, I see both teams getting off to a slow start in this game. It will then become an even more difficult task to get this game OVER the total after a slow start. The Odds Makers Agree with me on this theory as the 1st Quarter Total Stands at a mere 10.5 points. I can't imagine how many college kids will "Lose their Shirt" thinking this will be a shootout from the opening kickoff.

The Colts and the Saints know they have capable offenses. The team that will hoist the Vince Lombardi Trophy when it's all said and done will be the team that plays better defense on this given Sunday! I am quite sure, that Defense is Priority #1 on both Jim Caldwell and Sean Peyton's clipboard. With 2 weeks of practice I fully expect both teams to be ready to contain the others offensive firepower! The Saints first 2 playoff games both played over the total, but not as easy as first thought. The Saints defense has stepped up coming out of the locker room for the second half during this postseason run. In fact New Orleans has allowed just 14 total points in the 2nd half of their 2 playoff games, shutting down Arizona to Zero 2nd half points and allowing 14 points to the Vikings 2 weeks ago. The Saints defense should be recognized for this Defensive feat, due to the fact they shut down 2 experienced Hall of Fame QB's in perfect playing conditions in the Playoffs. Let's also pass on some credit to the Colts defense who has not allowed a 2nd half point in the playoffs so far. In fact the Colts defense has hung up 6 scoreless quarters in 8 playoff quarters of football during this postseason run. My point is that both of these defenses are capable of stopping or slowing the other teams offense. If we get one scoreless quarter, one key turnover or a few Red Zone Field Goals we will cash this total Easy!!

This is the Highest Total in Super Bowl History, surpassing the 2007 Giants/Patriots total that was 55 points, the final score of that game was 17-14. In fact the 4 of the last 5 Super Bowl have finished UNDER the total with only Last Years Arizona/Pittsburgh game going over the total on a late 4th Quarter Touchdown Catch. In fact in 43 previous Super Bowl's with the total of 50+ points the UNDER is just 4-3. However, of the 3 Super Bowls that finished OVER the total only one was a "Clear Cut" Over and that was Super Bowl XXIX where the 49ers beat the Chargers 49-26 with the posted Total at 53.5. Super Bowl XXXIII Denver 34 Atlanta 19 - 53 Total Points Scored with the Closing Line of 52.5 & Super Bowl XIX 49ers 38 Miami 16 - 54 Total points Scored with the Closing Line of 53.5 points. Depending where you play, the UNDER Could very well be 6-1 in All Super Bowls with Totals of 50+ Points.

In this decade we have had our share of high powered offense make it to the Super Bowl. Last year Kurt Warner and Larry Fitzgerald had the best QB/WR Combo in postseason history but only scored 23 points in in the Super Bowl. In 2008 Tom Brady and Randy Moss Re-Wrote the Record Books but only scored 14 points in their Super Bowl. Even the Rams of the late '90's and Early this decade only scored 40 combined points in their 2 Super Bowl appearances and were tagged "The Greatest Show on Turf". We come full circle to the best phrase I ever heard about this sport, "Offense Brings Crowds & Defense Wins Championships!

Favre holds so many NFL passing records already. Most career completions, Most career passing yards, Most 3,000 yard passing seasons, Longest pass completion (99 yard Touchdown) & the most lifetime touchdowns! Favre lead the NFL in Touchdowns in 4 Seasons, the only other players to do it 4 times in their careers, Johnny Unitas, Len Dawson and Steve Young! Then they went into New Orleans & beat the Undefeated Saints! The December Jinxx is over and they also grabbed that Playoff Win! Dallas is playing Pressure Free Football Right Now & that os flat out dangerous. Romo is playing as well as any QB & the Dallas Defense is Reborn!

Arizona Cards - They loved being the Underdog as they prepared to play the Packers and they love being a Touchdown Underdog against the Saints this Week. Kurt Warner actually had more touchdowns then incompletions against the 2nd ranked defense in the NFL (Green Bay). Let's Not Forget that Arizona is the defending NFC Champs & are actually better this season. Bennie Wells & Tim Hightower give the Cards a good running game. Minnesota Vikings - Brett Farve is back in the playoffs & has a great defense behind him. This post season run is all about the Defense. With Farve, Peterson, Harvin & Company the Vikings should have no problem scoring points! It's up to Jared Allen & that Minnesota Defense to Step up & get back into last season form where they allowed nothing! Offense Brings Crowds & Defense Wins Championships! For Crying Out Loud, Let Farve Call an Audible at the Line!

New Orleans Saints - The Biggest Home Advantage of any team in any sport! The Superdome will be Rocking & that is going to be a huge advantage if the Saints can Keep Winning! Drew Brees wants to be mentioned in the same class as Peyton Manning, Tom Brady and Ben Rothlisberger. He has to get the job done on the Big Stage now. Sean Peyton is one of the great young football minds in the business right now. Hopefully Peyton has some magic to turn around the Saints late season fortune. New Orleans has lost 3 straight & have only covered the vegas line in 2 of their last 10 games!

Jim Caldwell Cheated the Game

It's 4 days after the fact that the Colts "Threw" the game against the Jets. I really needed to think about this before I blogged about it. The more I think about it the worse it feel about it. Jim Caldwell cheated everyone, his players that have busted their asses since July, the Fans who paid Big Bucks to witness history, the other teams in the NFL that are chasing the Jets for a playoff spot & most of all the game!

Just watching, Manning, Clark, Addai and Wayne on the sideline was painful for me a huge fan of football! You could see it in the faces of the Colts players they wanted to go 15-0 & take their chances with perfection against Buffalo. It's so rare that a team go this far without a loss & Caldwell decides to just pull players when so many Colt players expressed that they wanted 16-0! Let's face the facts here, Caldwell is just a cheap imitation of Tony Dungy. He took over Dungy's system and inherited a Future Hall of Fame Quarterback. Let's say Jim Caldwell was the head coach of the Tampa Bay Bucs, would his team be 14-0 with a chance at history? I doubt it. In fact I don't think Caldwell would do any better of a job then Raheem Morris. My point is although this is Caldwell's team he should have taken the pulse of the players, owners and fans before deciding to pull all his starters.

Jim Caldwell is very aware that he is not on the good side of the Indianapolis fans. If this were a New York, Chicago, Boston or Los Angeles team going for history and Caldwell pulled that stunt it would be magnified 1000% then it is in small market Indianapolis. Some fans have said they won't be back. Others have suggested that even if the Colts would win another Super Bowl they won't forgive Caldwell or team management. In fact some state legislature is trying to get Colt's fans their money back! I am all for that!

The Jets did benefit from the Colts throwing the game! They now control their own faith to make it into that playoff's! The Jets now get a National Television game on Sunday night while the Ravens, Broncos, Texans and Steelers should all feel cheated. I personally think teams should be penalized for not playing to win the game! It kills the integrity of the game!

The person I feel the worse for is Colts back up QB Curtis Painter. Caldwell throws the young QB in at home with a perfect season on the line. WHAT KIND OF REACTION DID CALDWELL THINK HE WAS GOING TO GET? He was booed when he walked on the Field and was Booed even worse after he fumbled the football resulting in a Jets Touchdown! All this torture just to get Manning off the field to avoid injury. PS, Caldwell, Manning has never been injured as an NFL or College Player. Even if Manning broke is shoulder playing against the Jets or Bills chasing perfection, the fan reaction would not be as loud as it is now for pulling the plug on the perfect season!

So the Colts played 1 quarter of meaningless football last week and will only play their starters for a limited time in Week 17. They Colts earned a 1st round bye week which means they won't play meaningful football until 1/16/10 or 1/17/10. Then the Master Caldwell will just flip the switch and get his team to play Intense football come Mid January? I don't think so! I would love to be a fly on the wall of that locker room, I don't Caldwell lost the respect of his entire team, but I am sure he has lost the respect if a few players. I love Peyton Manning and how could you not, but I have lost all respect for Jim Caldwell. I hope my home town Jets back into the playoffs as a result of the Caldwell throwing the game. How great would it be to see the Team Caldwell let into the playoff's knock him out of the playoffs. However you want to envision it I just want the Colts knocked out in the first round! Chasing Perfection did not slow the Patriots down in the playoffs in 2007 but sitting players who are not injured has burnt the Colts before in the Playoffs & I hope it does again this season!

5 Rules to Handicapping Bowl Games

Here are 5 Basic Guideline to Follow when Handicapping Bowl Games. Follow these Tips & Improve your Chances of Making Profit this Bowl Season!

1) Stay away from teams that have "Stumbled" Into a Bowl Game. Look to back teams that ended the season winning at least 3 games in a row. This team ended their season strong and most likely had a great few week of preparation. Stick with the Hot Teams

2) It's always nice to back experience. Look for teams with coaches who have considerable bowl game experience and especially a winning record in bowl games. This proves to me that the Head Coach knows how to deal with "Big Game Hype" & balancing the Extra off days. First time coaches will always struggle against the experienced coaches.

3) While all Bowl Games are considered on a "Neutral Field" I always like to back teams that have had regular season success on the road. It's easy for players to play in their home stadium and in front to their fans, but getting it done on the road in a hostile environment in November will only help a team during Bowl Season. Play those Road Warriors!

4) It's always easier to handicap conference match up's in October then Bowl Games in December. Start off your handicapping by looking for "Common Opponents" This would be a great starting point to handicapping a particular Bowl Game. It is also very helpful to to weigh the performance of the two teams against teams that are in bowl games. How did these teams fair against the better teams in the country?

5) Always look for teams with "Strong" ATS records in an underdog spot. When teams cover the spread as the underdog it proves to me that they are up to the task of fighting with the Big Boys! I always like getting Points with those Barking Dogs in Bowl Games!

Hopefully these 5 Tips can help you out this Bowl Season! However you can take the 'Do It Yourself" approach or leave the Heavy Lifting to me this Bowl Season!

NFL WEEK 13 "BAD BEATS"

Oh December Football is upon us! You can bet that you will lose a few games this month and be left with thin pockets, scratching your head thinking What the F*?K Just happened!!! Here are some "Bad Beats" in NFL Week 13....

1) So you took the Titans/Colts Over the total of 47 points. Joseph Addai Runs for 2 First half touchdowns and Peyton Tosses another in just the First half. Titans did their part and scored 10 points in the first 30 minutes and your sitting pretty at halftime with the score 24-10 needing only 2 touchdowns in the second half to secure a Winning Wager! Not so fast! A scoreless third quarter and 10 combined points in the 4th Quarter from the Titans & Colts and this game Finishes Just under the total!

2) You Slammed the Under in the Raiders/Steelers game. It would have been a Headliner match up in the 70's. This was your headliner total on Sunday, tough Steelers defense in 28 degree weather against a Raiders teams that had to travel half way across the country to play this game. You fall asleep watching this boring game and wake up for the start of the 4th Quarter with the Steelers leading 10-6. Dead Under Easy Winner Right? Wrong both teams combine to score 35 points in the final 8 minutes & 21 seconds. Shocked! Steelers lose & your "Dead Under" is a "Dead Loser"

3) You Ate the Chalk and took the Bengals laying 13.5 points. Detroit jumps out to a 7-0 lead and you worried. Fast Forward to the 4th Quarter and the Bengals lead 23-7 and have scored 23 unanswered points. Your in position to cash this game even with Carson Palmer throwing 2 Interceptions & losing 1 fumble. Dante Culpepper enters the game with 2:56 to go in the 4th Quarter and your saying your prayers right about now. "I swear I will never lasy 13.5 points again" I swear I won't bet the Bengals ever again" (You said that as well after the Raiders loss) " "I swear I will never bet against the Lions again" You know the back door touchdown is looming! An 11 Yard Pass, a 7 yard Culpepper scramble and 38 yard strike to Calvin Johnson set up a 2 yard touchdown by Kevin Smith. It did't matter, the Lions lost anyway 23-13 but SO DID YOUR BENGALS BET!

4) So what the Entire World is on the Patriots. Miami Wildcat offense is not the same without Ronnie Brown and New England needs this game after that Hideous Monday Night Loss to the Saints. The 2nd Quarter just started and the Patriots are up 14-0 and your thinking 63-14 New England Win! However in the Final 44 minutes and 56 Seconds the Dolphins outscore the Mighty Patriots 22-7 with Chade Henne completing 22 of 59 passess for 335 yards & 2 touchdowns. Patriots lose again and so do you! How the hell did this happen you wonder!

5) After all the tough losses today and least we can get an easy Over on the Seahawks/49ers game. This game is tied up 14-14 with 7:47 secods left in the second quarter. Translation, we need 2 touchdowns in nearly 38 minutes of football to cash this ticket! Not This Sunday! the Seahawks & 49ers combine to score 9 points in the final 38 minutes of the game leaving this game way under the posted total. It was the most painful 38 minutes of football you have had to sit through all year!

Those were the worse 5 losses of the Sunday NFL card. If you were any one of these games then you know exactly what I am talking about. Let a lesson be learned....Never Count Your Chips Until the Smoke has cleared and the Fat Lady has Sung!
